A Level Courses

A Levels are the Gold Standard of the British education system and our abilities, even in later life, are still measured against it. Because most ‘A’ level students take two years, each course can be divided into two halves or “AS and A2 Levels”. Whilst both halves cover approximately the same amount of material, the conceptually harder elements will nearly always be found second half. Each course pack has been written to cover a specific A Level syllabus and approved through the appropriate examination body so you can be confident that your course will cover everything that you need in order to pass your examination.

Please Note: we cannot accept students under the age of 16 on our courses

Important Information about the A Level Exams:
A complete A Level consists of an AS and an A2 syllabus. For most A Levels there is a now a new syllabus in place and the earliest opportunity to complete any exams will be in 2010. This is because the new A2 examinations do not come into fruition until June 2010. It is possible to sit the full Pure Mathematics, Maths & Statistics or Maths & Mechanics A Level in a one year period as these subjects are not in the new format syllabus.

Special Requirements:
In general we will only admit students for A Level who have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C and above or equivalent qualifications. These would ideally include English and Math's.

The final application dates for students aiming for the June 2009 examinations are:
 
Full A Levels June 09 exams (Maths only): Tues 30th September 2008
 
All other A Levels (AS in June 2009, A2 in June 2010) - Weds 17th October 2008.

At the end of the course, you should be able not only to produce final accounts, but also to interpret a wide variety of financial documents. ‘A’ level Accounting provides the perfect theoretical background for someone planning a career in accountancy.
 
Distance Learning Centre : BUSINESS STUDIES A LEVEL COURSE BUSINESS STUDIES A LEVEL COURSE
A Business Studies ‘A’ level will give you a solid grounding in many of the skills required for business life in the rapidly changing world of the new millennium. One of our most popular courses, it assumes no prior knowledge, although it is an advantage to have some background in accounting and mathematics. New topics include the “dot com” phenomenon and how to start a new business.
 
Distance Learning Centre : ECONOMICS A LEVEL COURSE ECONOMICS A LEVEL COURSE
Topics similar to those studied at GCSE level are covered, but in more depth. At the end of this stimulating course, in addition to an appreciation of the way in which modern economic society functions, you will have a solid basis on which to build a career in banking, finance or government. The Case Study on the European Union will also help prepare you for a variety of career opportunities.
 
Distance Learning Centre : ENGLISH A LEVEL COURSE ENGLISH A LEVEL COURSE
The course examines the language of advertising, newspapers and television as well as variations of dialect, accent and class. It provides the perfect opportunity for students to improve their language skills and gain an understanding of the underlying structures of English, both spoken and written.
 
Distance Learning Centre : ENGLISH LITERATURE A LEVEL COURSE ENGLISH LITERATURE A LEVEL COURSE
Taking our course in ‘A’ level English literature is an excellent way to introduce yourself to a wide range of works of drama, poetry and prose. On this AQA syllabus, there are six written papers and the course prepares you thoroughly for all of them. Altogether you will study eight great books.

Our course aims to promote the acquisition of four essential skills: listening to, speaking, reading and writing the French language. It does this within a structure of five sections. The first covers general topic areas that will aid you in developing appropriate vocabulary as well as tackling the types of exercise you will face in the exams.
 
Distance Learning Centre : HISTORY A LEVEL HISTORY A LEVEL
Many of us take for granted the fact that we live in a liberal democracy. Our History ‘A’ Level follows the development of life in Britain between the French Revolution, widely supported on this side of the Channel, and the turmoil and upheaval of the 1930s. As you follow this course, you will learn to tie together the social, economic and political threads of history whilst meeting some of its heroes and villains.

Our course will give you a thorough understanding of how law is created, administered and changed. You will learn how to analyse problem situations and apply the appropriate substantive legal rules and principles. You will gain the ability to evaluate critically the appropriateness and effectiveness of particular legal rules, institutions and procedures together with an appreciation of the effects of the law and the legal system on the individual and society.
