This course is designed for any person who feels they could benefit from having an understanding of how to care for children. There are no entry requirements but students must be committed to the aims of the programme and study method. This course is designed to provide the background to establishing your own Child Care establishment or working effectively in an existing establishment. It covers the obstacles you might encounter and the skills necessary to overcome them along with practical tips and ideas for running a successful Child Care business..
The course is split into the following 10 Lessons:
- Lesson One - The Rights and Needs of Children
The following topics are covered: Introduction, UN Convention on Children’s Rights, General Rights of Children and The Needs of Children.
- Lesson Two - Minimum Standards of early childhood Development
The following topics are covered: Function of Minimum Standards, Standards Statement and Outcomes for Children.
The following topics are covered: Regulations Relating to Child Care.
- Lesson Four - Administrative Matters
The following topics are covered: Administrative Information, Forms to be kept on children and Registers needed.
- Lesson Five - Programmes and Activities
The following topics are covered: Programmes, Different Age Group Programmes, Activities, Areas of Development and Excursions.
The following topics are covered: Medical History Forms, Responsibilities of Staff, Universal Precautions, Preventing Poisoning and First Aid boxes.
The following topics are covered: General guidelines for Planning menus, Feeding of Infants, Menu Suggestions, Important Minerals and Sample Recipes.
- Lesson Eight – Quality Assurance
The following topics are covered: Aims of Quality Assurance and The Quality Assurance Report.
- Lesson Nine – Baby Sitting Services
The following topics are covered: Baby sitting guidelines and Parental Checklist.
- Lesson Ten – Parental Inspections
The following topics are covered: What a Parent expects to find and Glossary.
Pre-Requirements:
There are no particular entry requirements.
Technical Support:
Once you have enrolled, you will have access to your own personal tutor by mail or email. You will receive full tutor support for a 12 month period.
Qualification:
The course consists of 10 lessons with set assignments to complete. The qualification is gained from your coursework and there is no exam to complete. On completion of this course students will be awarded with the ASET Level 3 Diploma in Child Day Care. This award is at an equivalent to A Level or NVQ Level 3.
