This course is designed for people who wish to gain an advanced understanding of principles and practice of Psychology. Students must have completed an introductory course in a Psychology discipline before undertaking this programme.
The aims of the course are to enhance students’ knowledge of psychology theory and to develop a broad understanding of theories applied to practical aspects of social and cognitive psychology, child development and adaptive behaviour. The course also teaches research methods and interpretation of research data.
The Course Includes the Following Modules:-
- Lesson One – Perspectives on Psychology
The following topics are covered in this lesson: What is psychology? The biological approach, Behaviourist & cognitive approaches, Person-centred approaches and Methods and debate in psychology.
- Lesson Two – Social Psychology
The following topics are covered in this lesson: Attitudes, Social influence, Obedience, Social cognition and Applied social psychology.
- Lesson Three – Cognitive Psychology
The following topics are covered in this lesson: Perception, Attention, Remembering, Forgetting, Language, Thinking and Problem solving & artificial intelligence.
- Lesson Four – Child Development
The following topics are covered in this lesson: Issues in child development, Cognitive development, Development of language & communication, Social perception and Moral development.
- Lesson Five – Psychology & Atypical Behaviour
The following topics are covered in this lesson: Definition & diagnosis of atypical behaviour, Treatments of atypical behaviour and Emotional disorders.
- Lesson Six – Research Methods
The following topics are covered in this lesson: Research methods, Research issues and Data Analysis.
Pre-Requirements:
To register for this course, student MUST have previously completed one of the following:
GCSE Psychology grade A-B; Distance Learning Centre’s Diploma in Psychology (Level 3 Qualification); or
Other Accredited Diploma in psychology or equivalent. Please Note: Proof of the qualification must be provided on registration

Once you have enrolled, you will have access to your own personal tutor by mail or email. You will receive full tutor support for a 12 month period.
Qualification
The course consists of 6 modules with set assignments to complete. The qualification is gained from your coursework and there is no exam to complete. On completion of this course students will be awarded with the ASET Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Psychology. This qualification is equivalent to a Certificate of Higher Education or NVQ Level 4.
