The purpose of the course is to assist clients in setting and achieving realistic fitness goals based on each client's needs. Ultimately, the client should be able to individually develop and follow goals based on the personal trainer's knowledge.
This course is suitable for anyone wishing to become a fitness instructor or personal trainer, although further practical training will be required for insurance purposes.
Fitness Instructors provide a comprehensive, one-on-one personal fitness assessment and training program and are expected to work independently and adhere to the guidelines of their certifying organisation, as well as all company policies and procedures.

The course is split into the following 8 Units:
The following topics are covered: Macronutrients, Micronutrients, Additional Supplements, Daily Caloric Requirements, Dietary Requirements and Tutor Marked Assignment 1.
The following topics are covered: Muscle fibre Types, Energy Production and Cardiovascular.
The following topics are covered: Anatomy, Muscle Action, Joint Action and Tutor Marked Assignment 2.
- Unit Four - Aerobic Training
The following topics are covered: Benefits, Weekly Requirements & Limitations, Diet Requirements, Types of Aerobic Activities, Pregnancy, Heart Rates, Blood Pressure, Specific Aerobic Activities and Teaching Aerobics.
- Unit Five - Plyometric & Weight Training
The following topics are covered: Benefits, Circuit Training, Overload Principles, Free Weights V Machines, Lifting Techniques, Sets & Repetitions, Weekly Requirements, Diet requirements and Tutor Marked Assignment 3.
- Unit Six – Sample Workout and Fitness Tests
The following topics are covered: Flexibility Test, One-Minute Sit-up Test, Push-up Test, 3 Minute Step Test and Body Composition.
- Unit Seven - Specialised Training
The following topics are covered: Stretching, Yoga, Pregnancy, Senior Fitness, Exercise Injury and Tutor Marked Assignment 4.
The following topics are covered: Anatomy Chart, Useful Contacts, IFA Code of Ethics, Glossary of Nutritional, Information and Glossary of Fitness Terms.
Course Duration:
Students may register at any time and have a full year to complete their studies. The course will take approximately 80 hours of study to complete.
Pre-Requirements:
There are no particular entry requirements.
Technical Support:
Once you have enrolled, you will have access to your own personal tutor by mail or email. You will receive full tutor support for a 12 month period.
Qualification:
The course consists of 8 Units with set assignments to complete. The qualification is gained from your coursework so there is no exam to complete.
On successful completion of this course students will be awarded the NOCN Level 2 Fitness & Nutrition Award. This award is a Level 2 qualification (Comparable to working at GCSE or NVQ Level 2) and consists of 6 credits which can be used to access higher education qualifications.
The award is issued through the North West Region (OCNNW) of The National Open College Network who are approved as an awarding body with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). |
