This programme is designed for students who wish to gain an understanding of principles and practice of Substance Misuse Awareness. No prior knowledge is required.
The course leads to the award of the Substance Misuse Awareness (Level 2) from ASET, a leading UK awarding body recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. The course is designed for study by distance learning at work or at home. Students receive course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support by mail and email. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of registration.
Objectives:
The Objective of the Course is to cover a wide range of issues related to substance misuse, social effects, health and the various responses and interventions at a deeper and more comprehensive level than the Level 2 Drugs Awareness course.
The Course Includes the Following 6 Lessons:-
- Lesson One – Understanding Drug Use
The following topics are covered: History of drug use; The effects of drugs; Drug facts; and Understanding attitudes and values about drugs.
- Lesson Two – Recognising & Responding to Drug Use
The following topics are covered: Know the signs and symptoms relating to drug use; The laws in relation to drug use; Problems associated with drug use; Harm reduction; Responses to drug use; and drug services.
- Lesson Three – Communicating with Young People about Drugs
The following topic is covered: Using effective communication skills when talking to young people about drugs.
- Lesson Four – Understanding solvent and volatile substance abuse (VSA)
The following topic is covered: Reasons why VSA should be a cause for concern.
- Lesson Five – Awareness of issues concerning alcohol and young people
The following topics are covered: Issues surrounding the use/misuse of alcohol; The different types of alcohol consumption and their potential effects; The consequences associated with different types and levels of alcohol consumption; and attitudes towards and the impact of alcohol use on young people.
- Lesson Six - Blood borne viral infections related to drug use
The following topics are covered: Understand the nature, extent and effects of blood borne viruses; understand how to prevent the transmission of blood-borne viruses; and understand the range of attitudes and values about blood-borne viral infections.
Pre-Requirements:
There are no particular entry requirements.
Technical Support
Once you have enrolled, you will have access to your own personal tutor by mail or email. You will receive full tutor support for a 12 month period.
Qualification
The course consists of 6 lessons with set assignments to complete. The qualification is gained from your coursework and there is no exam to complete. On completion of this course students will be awarded with the ASET Level 2 Certificate in Substance Misuse Awareness. This award is at an equivalent to GCSE or NVQ Level 2.
