The CIW Web Design Specialist Course is for students who want to gain the necessary skills to specialise in Web design. This syllabus builds upon the basic Web authoring skills taught in the Web Foundations and covers the essentials and best practices of Web design, including design theory, tools and technologies.
The CIW Web Design Specialist course prepares candidates to take the CIW ID0-520 exam. This qualification is also one half of the CIW Web Design Professional certification.
Students with little or no background in Web design should consider starting with the CIW Web Foundations Associate or the CIW Site Development Foundations.
The CIW Web Design Specialist is now listed on the QCF as a nationally recognised qualification set at Level 4 with 20 Credits.

We offer an online pre-assessment test that mirrors the number of questions and distribution of skills objectives covered on the CIW exam. The CIW Pre-Assessment helps students determine their existing skill levels and their preparedness to take the CIW training courses. It also helps identify knowledge areas in which students need to focus their studies in order to pass the certification exam.
The Web Design Specialist course teaches you how to design and publish Web sites. General topics include Web Site Development Essentials, Web Design Elements, Basic Web Technologies and Advanced Web Technologies. You will also work with popular production tools such as Microsoft Expression Web, and Adobe Dreamweaver and Flash.

The CIW Web Design Specialist course books come with an additional Exam Study Guide which prepares you for the CIW 1D0-520 Web Design Specialist exam. This guide include overviews and information on how to take the exams, a table of all exam domains, objectives and sub-objectives, summarised content sections on what you need to know for the exam and sample exam questions.

CIW Course Mastery is an online tool that delivers CIW course review questions. This tool is based on research in learning and memory and it delivers an accelerated teaching solution that reduces training time and boosts retention of material in the learner’s memory to provide 100-percent mastery of all content. Students can use Course Mastery after each lesson to review the material, and identify the concepts that they understand and those that they still need to learn. Please Note: If you would like to purchase Adobe Software then you can apply for an NUS Extra Student Card using your DLC student reference number which will enable registered students to purchase the software packages under a student licence agreement.
Pre-Requirements:
Students should have knowledge of basic HTML or XHTML Programming. The course does not have any pre-requisites although we do recommend completing the CIW Foundations Associate Course to learn the basics of Web site authoring and development.
APPLE MAC USERS: We recommend this course is completed on a PC with the Windows Operating System. The course can be run on an Apple Macs using software such as Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop 7, VMware fusion or CrossOver Mac although we cannot support any issues that may occur with PC-Based software running on a Mac.
Course Duration & Support:
The course is designed as a self-study course but you do have full support from our own support team and CIW. As the course is self study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer, and we do not impose a cut-off date for study.

On Completion of this curriculum, you can apply for the internationally recognised CIW Web Design Specialist 1D0-520 Examination, which is currently £90.00 + VAT.

Exams must be sat at a registered Prometric or Pearson VUE testing centre. The exams consists of 70 multiple choice/multiple answer questions over 75 minutes and the passing score is 70%.
