The Criminal Psychology – Level 4 Diploma Course will examine the topic of the history of crime and punishment.

The course will briefly examine different theories of offending before examining the psychology of violent crime in some detail. The examination of the psychology of violent crime provides a useful introduction to forensic psychology and offender profiling.

The course will also examine the psychology of terrorist crimes, domestic violence, drug abuse and youth crime and victimology, before taking a look at crime prevention and community safety and the criminal justice system and those involved in its management.

On successful completion of the home study courses students will receive a recognised level 4 diploma certificate (Comparable to working at NVQ Level 4).

At the end of each unit there are a number of activities, 50% of which are designed to get you to organise the information you have acquired into a format that you feel comfortable with.
 
You are also required to write a choice of 2 x 500 word essays after completing each section. It is only the essays that need be submitted for assessment.
 
Each section of the home study courses also suggest further reading. You will find a significant amount of reading is available online. Most public libraries have a good selection of social science texts. If your local library does not have what you are looking for you could try Amazon.
 
Pre-Requisites:
 
There are no particular entry requirements.
 
Course Duration & Support:
 
Students may register at any time and have a full year to complete their studies. You also have access to a personal tutor by mail or email for a 12 month period. As the home study courses are self study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer.
 
Assessment:
 
You will be assessed on coursework which is detailed in the course materials. Coursework consists of short paragraph answers to set questions, and a 500 word essay. Your work can be sent back by email or by post.
 
Qualification:
 

The award is gained from successfully completed coursework so there is no exam to complete.

On successful completion of this course students will be awarded a Level 4 Criminal Psychology Diploma Certificate.

This award has been independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and is comparable to working at NVQ Level 4.

 
The award is issued through NCFE. NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.
