The CIW Web Development Professional Course consists of three separate CIW syllabus exam courses, the CIW Database Design Specialist, the CIW Perl Specialist and the CIW JavaScript Specialist. When students pass all three exams they also earn the CIW Web Development Professional Certification.
The CIW Web Development Professional certification provides the essential combination of a front-end scripting language, a back-end programming language and the skills to integrate them with a database, making the Web Development Professional an ideal option for experienced Web site designers looking to validate their skills.
To earn the CIW Web Development Professional Certification, students must pass three CIW Exams, the CIW JavaScript Specialist 1D0-635 exam, the CIW Perl Specialist 1D0-437 exam and the CIW Database Design Specialist 1D0-541 exam.
Each exam is listed on the QCF as a nationally recognised qualification set at Level 3 with 10 Credits (30 credits in total).

- CIW JAVASCRIPT SPECIALIST COURSE BOOK
The CIW JavaScript Specialist Course teaches web developers how to use the features of the JavaScript language to design client-side, platform-independent solutions. Students will also understand and use the most popular applications of JavaScript. These specialised Web language skills can help you begin or grow a career in advanced Web development and technologies.
Skills Taught:
JavaScript language essentials, including program flow control, form validation, image animation, frame targeting and cookie creation
JavaScript code development, including writing programs and writing script for the JavaScript object model
Web site implementation, including authoring and scripting, Web content creation, Web management and digital media tools
The CIW Perl Specialist course teaches developers how to fully use the features of the Perl programming language in Web application development. These specialised Web language skills can help you begin or grow a career in advanced Web development and technologies.

Perl language essentials, including syntax, regular expressions and data types.
Perl code development, including accessing and manipulating files.
Web site implementation, including database connectivity and debugging techniques.
The CIW Database Design Specialist course provides introductory vendor-neutral training for individuals planning to pursue product-focused database specialisation. This course introduces you to DB2, Oracle Database 11g, MS SQL and mySQL. You will also learn about Structured Query Language (SQL) and database optimisation through normalisation.
Skills Taught:
Relational database fundamentals.
Database planning.
Database design methodology, including logical and physical database design.
Optimisation and normalisation.
Structured Query Language (SQL).
Relational algebra.
Transactions and database security.

- CIW COURSE REVIEWS & EXERCISES (12 Months Access) (Not available for CIW Perl Specialist)
The CIW Course Review modules are designed to assess knowledge of the concepts, skills and best practices taught in the Official CIW books. Each online module contains multiple-choice reviews and quizzes that cover book content lesson by lesson. Once you have mastered the CIW Course Review modules, you are better prepared to take the CIW Examinations.
CIW Exercises are online instructional supplements designed to offer a blended-learning approach. Mapped directly to the Official CIW books, these interactive online exercises help you review important concepts and measure your proficiency on content relevant to CIW certification exams.
Pre-Requirements:
Students will require a good knowledge of HTML Programming. The course does not have any pre-requisites although we do recommend completing the CIW Web Design Specialist Course prior to studying these courses.
APPLE MAC USERS: We recommend this course is completed on a PC with the Windows Operating System. The course can be run on an Apple Macs using software such as Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop 7, VMware fusion or CrossOver Mac although we cannot support any issues that may occur with PC-Based software running on a Mac.
Course Duration & Support:
Students may register at any time. The course is designed as a self-study course but you do have full support from our own support team and from CIW.
As the course is self study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer, and we do not impose a cut-off date for study.

CIW Examinations:
On Completion of this curriculum, you can apply for the internationally recognised CIW JavaScript Specialist 1D0-635 and CIW Perl Specialist 1D0-437 and CIW Database Design Specialist 1D0-541 Examinations, which are currently £90.00 + VAT each.
Once all 3 Certificates have been gained then the student will become a CIW Web Development Professional.

The CIW JavaScript Specialist exam consists of 55 multiple choice/multiple answer questions over 90 minutes and the passing score is 75%. The CIW Perl Specialist exam consists of 50 multiple choice/multiple answer questions over 75 minutes and the passing score is 75%. The CIW Database Design Specialist exam consists of 50 multiple choice/multiple answer questions over 90 minutes and the passing score is 75%.
