The Dementia Care Awareness – Level 2 Course is a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) which explains important facts about dementia and shows learners how they can integrate key ingredients of person-centred care, in order to improve the daily life of people with dementia.
It explains how to provide excellent quality care to dementia clients and will benefit those working in the care environment, such as nurses, residential care or domiciliary workers and particularly individuals who are supporting people with dementia on a daily basis. These materials will enable learners to understand dementia (and the practical help that is available for those clients) and ultimately teach them how to care for people who have dementia.
On completion of this qualification you will understand that person-centred dementia care involves examining and exploring the feelings and emotions which are caused by the experience of a dementia. It also requires you as a care worker to put yourself in the shoes of a family member and to appreciate their feelings. On successful completion of the home study courses students will receive a recognised level 2 Qualification (Comparable to working at GCSE or NVQ Level 2).
Person-centred care also looks at the feelings that being close to individuals with a dementia can create in you as a care worker. Person-centred care comes from the heart, it is not something you just learn, but something you need to feel. VRQs are nationally recognised qualifications which are based on the national framework of qualifications (NQF) at all levels.
Like NVQs they cover the functions of managing activities, people, resources, information, energy and quality. TheNCFE Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Care is well suited to support progression to a full range of NVQs or other work-based qualifications.
The good news is that no prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about care planning and documentation and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course.
You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration, with full tutor support.

Pre-Requisites:
Practical experience as a care worker is necessary to complete this programme. This can be previous or current experience but you need to relate your coursework to the experience.
Students have the freedom to start the home study courses at any time and continue their studies at their own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with full tutor support.

The assessor/tutor will support the learner throughout the duration of the course. You will receive the course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support.

Assessment:
The NCFE Level 2 Dementia Care VRQ is assessed by internally set and marked assignments, moderated by NCFE. The certificate is achieved by completing all of the activities and self-assessment questions relevant to the units in the activities section of the programme.

The qualification is gained from successfully completed coursework so there is no exam to complete.
On successful completion of this course, students will receive the Dementia Care Awareness – Level 2 Qualification. This qualification has been accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The Level 2 qualification is equivalent to GCSE or NVQ Level 2. |

The award is issued through NCFE. NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.
