The Office Management Skills - Level 3 Course is designed for people who have (or plan to have) responsibility for the smooth running of an office and who require a broad understanding of their responsibilities and duties.
 
Objectives:

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Recognise how to manage effectively the office environment, technology and office staff
  • Apply good practice in recruiting, monitoring and training staff within the employment law framework
  • Practice essential skills in managing your own responsibilities
  • Adopt good practice in managing the customer interface through a range of communications skills
On successful completion of the course you will receive an accredited level 3 certificate award (Comparable to working at A Level or NVQ Level 3).

The Course Includes the Following Units:-

  • Unit One – Introduction

The following topics are covered: The Office Manager’s Areas of Responsibilities; and The Skills and Qualities Required to be an Effective Office Manager.

  • Unit Two – The Office Managers Responsibilities to the Office

The following topics are covered: Managing and Maintaining the Office Premises; Health and safety in the office; Electrical safety; Fire safety; Site security; Safeguarding equipment; Space management; Managing Supplies and Materials; Managing Technology in the Workplace; Using Resources Efficiently; Using natural resources efficiently; and Using human resources efficiently.

  • Unit Three – The Office Managers Responsibilities to the Staff

The following topics are covered: - Recruitment and Selection; The recruitment process; Selecting the right candidate; Making an offer; Contractual Rights; Civil Law; Legislation; Disciplinary procedure; Working Hours; Family Rights; Pay Rights; Equality and Diversity; Discrimination; Grievance procedure; Monitoring Performance; Appraisals and development; Training; Planning training; Delivering training; and Evaluating training.

  • Unit Four – The Office Managers own Responsibilities

The following topics are covered: Presenting Data; Presentations; Meeting management; Business reports; Project management; Effective Communication; Verbal communications; Non-verbal communication; Written communications; Listening skills; Time Management; Self Development; Personal and professional development objectives; Opportunities for continuing professional development; and Impact evaluation.

  • Unit Five – The Office Managers Responsibilities to Customers & Clients

The following topics are covered: Reception Skills; The reception area; Receiving post and deliveries; Security and safety; Good Customer Care; Receiving visitors; Dealing with telephone calls; Dealing with Complaints; External Communications; Marketing; Advertising; Creating own publicity; Public relations; News releases; and Advertising on the Internet.

Pre-Requirements:

There are no particular entry requirements.

Course Duration & Support:

Students may register at any time and have a full year to complete their studies. You also have access to a personal tutor by mail or email for a 12 month period. As the course is self study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer.

Assessment:

You will be assessed on coursework which is detailed in the course materials. Each unit is followed by a written assignment, which is submitted and then marked by your tutor. Most assignments consist of short paragraph answers to set questions. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.
 
Qualification:
 
The award is gained from successfully completed coursework so there is no exam to complete. On successful completion of this course, students will receive a Level 3 Office Management Skills Award.
 
This award has been independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and is comparable to working at A Level or NVQ Level 3.

The award is issued through NCFE. NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.
