The CIW Web Design Professional Course consists of 2 separate CIW syllabus exam courses, the CIW Web Design Specialist and the CIW E-Commerce Specialist. When students pass both exams they also earn the CIW Web Design Professional Certification.
Certified CIW Web Design Professionals must prove their understanding in the areas of Web design and e-commerce and must be able to develop and maintain Websites using authoring and scripting languages, create content and digital media, and employ standards and technologies for business-to-business and business-to-consumer e-commerce Web sites.
To earn the CIW Web Design Professional certification, you must take and pass two certification examinations, the CIW Web Design Specialist 1D0-520 examination and the CIW E-Commerce Specialist 1D0-525 examination.

We offer an online pre-assessment test that mirrors the number of questions and distribution of skills objectives covered on the CIW exam. The CIW Pre-Assessment helps students determine their existing skill levels and their preparedness to take the CIW training courses. It also helps identify knowledge areas in which students need to focus their studies in order to pass the certification exam.
The Web Design Specialist course teaches you how to design and publish Web sites. General topics include Web Site Development Essentials, Web Design Elements, Basic Web Technologies and Advanced Web Technologies. You will also work with popular production tools such as Microsoft Expression Web, and Adobe Dreamweaver and Flash.

- CIW E-COMMERCE SPECIALIST COURSE BOOKS
The E-Commerce Strategies and Practices course is for the individual who already understands the foundations of Web technologies and wants to become proficient in e-commerce practices and site design. To stand out as an increasingly valuable member of a Web or marketing team, you need a working knowledge of e-commerce standards. The official CIW Self Study Course books cover the complete syllabus for the exams and teach in-depth knowledge and skills with easily digestible narrative and hands-on labs. The CIW course books come with additional Exam Study Guides which prepares you for the CIW 1D0-520 Web Design Specialist & 1D0-525 CIW E-Commerce Specialist exams. These guides include overviews and information on how to take the exams, a table of all exam domains, objectives and sub-objectives, summarised content sections on what you need to know for the exam and sample exam questions.
CIW Course Mastery is an online tool that delivers CIW course review questions. CIW Live Labs are available to give remote access to all of the software covered within the Web Design Specialist course.
The following software packages are covered within the Live Labs: Microsoft Windows 7; Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0; Mozilla Firefox; Microsoft Expression Web 3; Adobe Dreamweaver CS5; Adobe Fireworks CS5; Adobe Flash Professional CS5; Apple QuickTime; and Adobe Flash Player 10.
Please Note: If you would like to purchase the Adobe Software covered in this syllabus then you can apply for an NUS Extra Student Card using your distance learning centre student reference number which will enable registered students to purchase the software packages under a student licence agreement.

We recommend a good knowledge of IT, computers and Internet/Email use. The course does not have any pre-requisites although we do recommend completing the CIW Foundations Associate Course or CIW Site Development Foundations Course to learn the basics of Web site authoring and development.
APPLE MAC USERS: We recommend this course is completed on a PC with the Windows Operating System. The course can be run on an Apple Macs using software such as Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop 7, VMware fusion or CrossOver Mac although we cannot support any issues that may occur with PC-Based software running on a Mac.
Course Duration & Support:
Students may register at any time. The course is designed as a self-study course but you do have full support from our own support team and from CIW. As the course is self study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer, and we do not impose a cut-off date for study.
On Completion of this curriculum, you can apply for the internationally recognised CIW Web Design Specialist 1D0-520 Examination and the CIW E-Commerce Specialist 1D0-525 Examination. The exams are currently £90.00 + VAT each.
On successful completion of both CIW Exams you will be awarded the CIW Web Design Professional Certification.
This is a level 4 qualification and has been accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) with 40 credits:
Exams must be sat at a registered Prometric or Pearson VUE testing centre.
The CIW Web Design Specialist exam consists of 70 multiple choice/multiple answer questions over 75 minutes and the passing score is 70%. The CIW E-Commerce Specialist exam consists of 72 multiple choice/multiple answer questions over 75 minutes and the passing score is 68%.
