The Accounting A Level home study course covers all the areas of expertise required to reach ‘A’ level standard and reflects the changes in examinations of recent years.

At the end of the home study course, you should be able not only to produce final accounts, but also to interpret a wide variety of financial documents. ‘A’ level Accounting provides the perfect theoretical background for someone planning a career in accountancy.

Each full A Level Course consists of an AS and A2 Syllabus. The course is split into four modules, reflecting the new four module examination structure of A levels. The AS and A2 courses can be sat in their own right as an individual course, but you are required to have completed the AS level syllabus before starting on an A2 syllabus.

The Syllabus:

This specification encourages candidates to develop:

• An understanding of the importance of effective accounting information systems and an awareness of their limitations.
• An understanding of the purposes, principles, concepts and techniques of accounting.
• The transferable skills of numeracy, communication, ICT, application, presentation, interpretation, analysis and evaluation in an accounting context.
• An appreciation of the effects of economic, legal, ethical, social, environmental and technological influences on accounting decisions.
• A capacity for methodical and critical thought.

Examinations:

AS

At AS, Candidates learn the fundamentals of record-keeping and the purposes, techniques and consequences of effective financial accounting. Candidates consider how financial accounting helps in the measuring, monitoring and planning of successful business operations. They study business ownership, control, profitability, performance and budgeting.

• Paper 1 - Introduction to financial accounting (1 ½ Hours) is 25% of the total A Level marks.
• Paper 2 - Financial and management accounting (1 ½ Hours) is 25% of the total A Level marks.

A2

At A2, Candidates develop their understanding of financial accounting techniques for business without a complete accounting system, for partnerships and for limited companies. Candidates study in greater depth how accounting techniques aid business management and decision-making. They look at costing, capital investment, budgeting and sources of finance as well as considering social accounting issues.

• Paper 1 – Further aspects of financial accounting (2 Hours) is 25% of the total A Level marks.
• Paper 2 - Further aspects of management accounting (2 Hours) is 25% of the total A Level marks.

Pre-Requirements:

We will admit Candidates for A Level Courses who have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C and above. These would ideally include English and Maths.
