The Microsoft Certified Professional 70-284 (Implementing and Managing Microsoft Exchange Server 2003) Course is aimed at system administrators who are preparing for Microsoft's MCSE 70-284 certification exam.
It covers the full range of skills and concepts that students need to know, such as installing Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, creating and managing recipients, configuring client connectivity, managing servers, implementing security, creating and managing public folders, choosing appropriate data storage hardware, backing up and restoring Exchange data, and migrating from previous versions of Exchange.

After completing this course students will know how to:

Describe the differences between shared-file and database messaging systems, and describe the primary features of exchange server 2003.

Manage recipients, including users, groups, contacts, and query-based distribution groups.

Configure and use client applications for accessing exchange e-mail.

Delegate management by using administrative groups, optimize communications with routing groups, implement front-end/back-end topologies, and manage virtual servers and directories.

Describe SMTP and the way Exchange Server 2003 uses it for server connectivity.

Manage storage, full text indexes, and hardware upgrades.

Assign standard and extended permissions, and configure SMTP security, including encryption and digital signing.

Plan for, and recover from, disasters by backing up and restoring data.

Perform daily, scheduled, and on-demand maintenance tasks.

Migrate from Exchange Server 5.5 or Exchange 2000 Server to Exchange Server 2003.

Students taking this course should be familiar with implementing and supporting Microsoft Windows Server 2003. You should also be familiar with the use and working of Personal Computers and should ideally be certified to any of the following qualification levels:

To do the practical elements of this course students would need multiple networked computers. 1 must be running Windows NT 4.0 Server.
The following software packages would be required: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition; Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition; Outlook 2003; Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server & Service Pack 4 or newer; and Exchange Server 5.5 and Service Pack 1 or newer.

Assessment:
Assessment is from the Microsoft 70-284 Examination. Examinations are in a multiple choice/multiple answer format.
