The Economics IGCSE Course is designed to follow the structure of the Edexcel 4EC0 specification and is divided into four separate modules. This home study course will help you develop your knowledge as you are taken on a tour of the world of economics, exploring topical issues that affect each one of us every day.
Economics is concerned with the interdependent behaviour of consumers, producers and governments as they allocate and distribute scarce resources. Economics involves the investigation of the allocation of scarce resources to the production and distribution of income and wealth. Business provides an important context in which economists study resource allocation.
Each lesson of the Economics IGCSE course begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study.
The home study course consists of 21 modules and 4 lessons in total with 7 TMAs, plus a longer mock Examination assignment.
The four modules are:
Topics Include: The Basic Problems of Economics; The Price System - Demand and Supply; Equilibrium Price; Elasticity of Demand; Elasticity of Supply; & Wages and Employment in a Free Economy.
Topics Include: Production; Economies of Scale; Competition; Monopoly and Oligopoly; & Public and Private Sectors.
Topics Include: Macroeconomic Objectives (1); Macroeconomic Objectives (2); Government Economic Policy Instruments (1); & Government Economic Policy Instruments (1).
Topics Include: Globalisation; International Trade (1); International Trade (2); International Trade (3); Exchange Rates; & Revision.

Every student receives a personal tutor with whom they need to keep in regular contact. The essential relationship between student and tutor begins with an introductory letter and a telephone call to help decide on a study plan. All tutors are fully qualified teachers holding either a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or a degree in education. So when you enrol on a home study course you can be assured of the assistance of a professionally qualified subject specific tutor.
We donít set a limit on how often you can contact your tutor. The advice and encouragement our tutors provide are an important part of your learning experience. You can contact your tutor by Phone, Post or Email. There are tutor-marked assignments (TMAís) in every course. These help the student consolidate the learning he or she has done and prepare for examinations. All tutors have a local rate telephone number such as a 0845 number. This means that when you phone your tutor it will only cost you the price of a local call. Whilst you are still actively submitting assignments, you should expect to be in contact with your tutor regularly. Remember, to get the most out of your tutor, you will need to tell them when you need assistance.
Edexcel are currently in the process of putting together a comprehensive list of those centres who provide assistance to private candidates and this will available before the end of the year. For the time being when you send an e-mail, please ensure that you give details of where you live, such as county or postcode and information on what qualifications and specifications you wish to enter.
