The Business Studies IGCSE Course looks at the business aspects of organisations within their economic, political and social contexts. Each lesson of the Business Studies IGCSE home study course begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study and is designed to meet the requirements of the Edexcel 4BS0 specification.

The performance of business is studied from a range of perspectives. Using case studies, your course ensures that you have knowledge, understanding and experience of the real world of business organisations. The use of case study materials also requires that you use a variety of methods to analyse and evaluate this evidence and thus make reasoned judgements in the context of real business scenarios.

The home study course consists of 5 modules and 22 lessons in total, with 9 TMAs. The module names and contents follow the sequence laid out in the Edexcel 4BS0 specification:

  • Module 1: Business Activity and the Changing Environment
  • Module 2: Human Resources (HR)
  • Module 3: Accounting and Finance
  • Module 4: Marketing
  • Module 5: Production.

The Syllabus:

The Business Studies IGCSE home study course is designed to prepare students for the Edexcel IGCSE in Business Studies (4BS0) for examination in May/June 2018.

Please Note: This specification will be available until the May/June 2018 exams, and a new specification (4BS1) with the new grading system (9 - 1) will be introduced in 2017 for first exams in May/June 2019. The new specification will cover the same content, so the current course will be suitable for students aiming for exams in 2019.

Student Support:

Every student receives a personal tutor with whom they should keep in regular contact. All tutors are fully qualified experienced teachers holding either a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or a degree in education. Most work from home and are able to offer flexible contact times. The tutor will contact students with an introductory letter and a telephone call to help decide on a study plan. They will also let the student know the best ways and times for contact.

There is no limit on how often you can contact your tutor. The advice and encouragement our tutors provide are an important part of your learning experience. You can contact your tutor by Phone, Post or Email. There are tutor-marked assignments (TMA's) in every course. These help the student to consolidate their learning and prepare for examinations.

All tutors have a Freephone 0800 telephone number and most will have Skype capabilities. Whilst you are still actively submitting assignments, you should expect to be in contact with your tutor regularly. Remember, to get the most out of your tutor, you will need to tell them when you need assistance.

Examination Centres:

All IGCSE Exams must be taken at a registered examination centre as a private candidate. We offer course materials and tutor support although we are not an examination centre. An Examinations Officer can assist with finding centres and dealing with coursework forms for all registered students but we do not book exams on behalf of students.

If you would like to research exam centres prior to enrolment then we would advise contacting Edexcel for a list of Edexcel registered centres in your area. Edexcel exam centres are able to submit entries for any qualification that they are approved to offer.

Nearest Examination Dates:

Please review the IGCSE Overview page for detailed information on possible examination dates and procedures.

IGCSE Examination Fees:

Examination fees need to be paid direct to your chosen exam centre. Prices for exams will vary depending on the exam centre's administration costs. You can find out further information about the Private Candidate process and locate suitable exam centres by contacting Edexcel

Studying from Abroad:

It is possible to study any of our courses from anywhere in the world. The IGCSE is offered to students in over 150 countries. We advise contacting the British Council or your local schools and colleges to enquire if they can offer the Edexcel IGCSE examinations.
