The End of Life Care – Level 3 (QCF) Course is designed for students who want to increase their knowledge of end of life care and develop their comprehension of the factors and issues that relate to providing end of life care for patients.

This course has been created so it is accessible for study by non-specialists in this field, or it can also be used to complement practical work within a relevant work-place environment. The course will help students to reinforce their practice with theoretical knowledge and may also give students the opportunity to look at aspects of health and social care that they have not been involved with previously.

On successful completion of the course students will receive a recognised level 3 Qualification with 16 credits issued by NCFE.

The course includes the following units:-

  • Unit 1 – Understanding End of Life Care (3 Credits)

The first unit provides learners with an overview of the emotive issues surrounding death and dying. It also helps learners to understand palliative care and its place within end of life care, along with the support services available to the individual and others.

  • Unit 2 - Communication During End of Life Care (2 Credits)

The second unit aims to give learners an understanding of the importance of communication when supporting an individual and others during end of life care.

  • Unit 3 - Assessment and Care Planning in End of Life Care (3 Credits)

The third unit aims to give the learner an understanding of the person centred approach to assessment and care planning within end of life care along with the legal implications of any advance care planning decisions.

  • Unit 4 - Person-Centred Approaches to End of Life Care (5 Credits)

This unit will inform learners of the person-centred approach to end of life care and how it ensures that the individual’s physical, emotional, social and cultural needs are met.

  • Unit 5 - Care During the Final Hours of Life and Bereavement Care (3 Credits)

The final unit will assist learners to understand approaches to providing care in the approach to death and the final hours of care. It will also provide an understanding of the processes of loss and grief, how to support those who are bereaved and how to cope with own feeling of stress and grief.

Prerequisites:

There is no previous learning knowledge or experience required to take this course..

Course Duration & Support:

Students may register at any time and have a full year to complete their studies. You also have access to a personal tutor by mail or email for a 12 month period. As the course is self study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer.

Assessment:

The NCFE Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care qualification consists of a combination of set activities which are marked by your tutor and are moderated by NCFE.

Qualification: 

NCFEOn successful completion of this course students will receive a Principles of End of Life Care Certificate Level 3 Qualification issued by NCFE.

This qualification has been accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF Qual. No: 501/0117/1) and has 16 Credits.

NCFE is recognised as an Awarding Organisation by the qualification regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, who are: the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Welsh Government, and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland. NCFE accreditation gives assurance that the content of a training course is of a high standard and meets the rigorous requirements of a national awarding organisation.

This course provides successful students with a qualification listed on the Qualifications and Credit Framework Database, accredited by NCFE at level 3 and is assessed through NCC, a licensed NCFE centre. Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. It means that this learning programme has been scrutinised and approved by an independent panel of experienced educational professionals and is quality audited biannually by NCFE.
