What is Operations Management?

Management can be defined as:

The process of designing, creating and maintaining an effective working environment where individuals or groups can work together to achieve their defined aims.

There are a number of key points to management:

  • Managers carry out a vast range of different activities, many of which will likely not be in any job description. They could be responsible for hiring, training and development, health and safety, financial planning, marketing, leadership, planning, project management, discipline etc.

  • Management occurs at all levels within an organisation, and within every organisation.

  • The primary role of most managers is to achieve productivity and quality. This is usually true in any field of endeavour.

This newly developed course will provide you with a broad introduction to these key components of this exciting and challenging field.
