The Astrology – Level 2 Course is designed for students wanting to understand the basis of Astrology and the Astronomy behind it. Students will discover what a chart wheel is and how to use it and will also learn all the astrological symbols and their meanings. From this information you can study the different astrological signs, learn how they originated, how to interpret them and how to explore horoscope calculations.

The course also shows how to investigate planetary symbolism and how to interpret the planets in a birth chart and learn their relationships, and how to understand the angles and houses and interpret the planets in them. Students will also perform a brief analysis of an astrological chart using standard techniques.

On successful completion on this course students will receive an accredited Level 2 Certificate of Achievement.

Course Delivery Notice: You will receive access to the course materials through an online portal for a 12-month period. Students can use the portal for accessing their course materials, submitting assignments and to log tutor questions. Due to the current circumstances surrounding COVID-19 hard-copy versions of this course are being dispatched twice a week so there may be slight delays to the usual delivery times.

This home study course includes the following units:

  • Unit 1: Introduction to Astrology

The following Topics are covered: Define astrology; Chart wheel; Standard symbols and glyphs; Horoscope Calculations; Mathematics behind chart calculation; and Chart analysis.

  • Unit 2: The Astrological Charts

The following Topics are covered: Astrological signs and astronomical terms; Sign groupings; Sign meanings; Astrological signs in chart interpretation; and Sun sign astrology.

  • Unit 3: The Planets in Astrology

The following Topics are covered: Planets in astrological terms; Astronomical factors related to the planets; The Moon; Planets in terms of signs; Interpret retrograde planets; and Nodes.

  • Unit 4: The Angles and the Houses

The following Topics are covered: House systems; House types and groupings; Chart angles; and Individual houses.

  • Unit 5: Aspects

The following Topics are covered: Relationships between planets; Aspect orbs; Minor aspects; Major aspects; and Aspect patterns.

  • Unit 6: Synthesis

The following Topics are covered: Interpret charts; Astrological keywords; and Example interpretations.


There are no particular entry requirements for this course and it is available to anyone interested in the subject.

Course Duration & Support:

Students may register at any time and have a full year to complete their studies. You also have access to a personal tutor by mail or email for a 12 month period. As the home study courses are self-study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer.


The Astrology course is assessed by a series of written assignments, which are submitted to and marked by your tutor. There is no external examination required.


At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).

The course has been endorsed under the ABC Awards and Certa Awards Quality Licence Scheme. This means that O-S-C has undergone an external quality check to ensure that the organisation and the courses it offers, meet defined quality criteria. The completion of this course alone does not lead to a regulated qualification* but may be used as evidence of knowledge and skills gained.

The Learner Unit Summary may be used as evidence towards Recognition of Prior Learning if you wish to progress your studies in this subject. To this end the learning outcomes of the course have been benchmarked at Level 2 against level descriptors published by Ofqual, to indicate the depth of study and level of demand/complexity involved in successful completion by the learner.
