This course in Photography has been written to provide you the student with a sound understanding of how a camera works and the background to camera care.
This course is for people who love to take pictures, but want to gain an understanding of the mechanics of photography. It doesn't matter if you prefer to use film or a digital method of photography.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to use your cameras successfully to capture what you see in an artistic form.
In particular, you will have learned:

Aperture vs. shutter speed;

The difference between a snapshot and a photograph;

Various photographers throughout history and the cameras they used;

Understand the pros and cons of each type of camera: digital and 35 mm;

To have the confidence to go out and experiment with the camera
The course covers the following Lessons:
- Lesson One – History of Photography
This lesson includes the following topics: Introduction; The Birth of Photography; The Evolution of Photography; and The Evolution of Photography.
- Lesson Two – Cameras & Accessories
This lesson includes the following topics: Introduction; Camera Types; Capture Types; and Accoutrements.
- Lesson Three – Camera Basics
This lesson includes the following topics: Introduction; Composition; Aperture; Shutter Speeds; and People and Places.
This lesson includes the following topics: Introduction; The Importance of Light; Types of Lighting; How to Manipulate Light; and Mood Lighting.
- Lesson Five – More Camera Skills
This lesson includes the following topics: Keeping the camera steady; Photographic composition; Shapes and lines; Pattern; Contrast; Perspective; Photographic Lighting; and Electronic Flash lighting.
This lesson includes the following topics: The portrait studio; Basic lighting units; Handling the camera and subject; Fundamental portrait lighting; Full-length photographs; and Passport photographs.
- Lesson Seven – Digital Cameras
This lesson includes the following topics: How they work; Basics of digital cameras; Storage of images; Compression; Resolution; Lens; Zoom; Flash; and Digital software.
- Lesson Eight – Video Cameras
This lesson includes the following topics: Understanding Motion Pictures; Understanding motion video; Videotape recorders; Camera handling techniques; Continuity; and Action.
- Lesson Nine – Careers in Photography
This lesson includes the following topics: Career options; Job description; and Celebrity photography.
- Lesson Ten – Wedding Photography
This lesson includes the following topics: Taking wedding photographs for family and friends; and Check list of wedding photographs.
Pre-Requirements:
There are no particular entry requirements.
Technical Support
Once you have enrolled, you will have access to your own personal tutor by mail or email. You will receive full tutor support for a 12 month period.
Qualification
The course consists of 10 lessons with assignments to complete. The qualification is gained from your coursework and there is no exam to complete. On completion of this course students will be awarded with the OCN Level 2 Qualification in Photography (9 Credits). This award is at an equivalent to GCSE or NVQ Level 2. Students are required to complete 9 written assignments and one practical Project.
