As we come to the end of the year, the time has come to start making new year’s resolutions. What will you do differently in 2020? Perhaps a new diet, maybe an exercise regime? What about giving your mind a workout with one of our fantastic languages courses from Distance Learning Centre?

You might have been partial to learning different languages in secondary school; Spanish, or French being the most common. But how many of us keep these languages on into higher learning? You might not have even had a chance to study additional languages in the first place.

LEARNING A SECOND LANGUAGE

Nowadays, the advantage of knowing multiple languages cannot be understated, as many jobs require a recognition of a certain language to communicate with colleagues around the globe, as well as do translation work. At the very least, an understanding of another language can be used for those wanting to travel the world, discover new cultures, and meet new people.

Below we’ve included some of our most popular language learning courses for you to enrol on in 2020.

SPANISH LANGUAGE LEARNING COURSE

Spoken by over 400 million people, this language is the second most popular behind Chinese. Given its influence in so many continents around the world, Spanish is said to be the ideal language to learn for those who want to travel, given that an understanding of it will help those going to Europe, South America and a great deal of destinations in the United States.

At Distance Learning Centre, you will have the option of three separate courses, all at differing levels. The Spanish IGCSE Course s a great start for those wanting a solid grasp of the language, with topic areas including About Me, Day to Day Life, Holidays & Travel, Modern Life and Speaking and Listening Skills. To ensure that the participant receives a rounded understanding, they are tested in listening, speaking and reading & writing.

We also offer a Spanish A Level Course for thos already at a GCSE standard and candidates will be tested on listening, speaking and reading & writing.

FRENCH LANGUAGE LEARNING COURSE

As our closest European neighbours, the French may not have the most widely spoken language in the world, but it is one of the most beautiful to speak. Alongside spoken in Switzerland and Belgium, the French language can also be found in Canada, South-East Asia and West Africa. A superb option for travellers and those wanting to start a career overseas.

We have the French IGCSE Course on offer, as well as French A Level for candidates to enrol on. Elaborating on the basics of the language, the IGCSE allows students to pick up the most common words and phrases through listening, speaking and the reading & writing elements of the course. Whereas the the French A Level contains 8 units, and is similarly assessed when the candidate completes listening, speaking and reading & writing elements.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING COURSE

If English isn’t your first language, it can be difficult to grasp the complexities of the language without studying it at school from an early age. Just behind Spanish, English is the third most spoken language in the world, so is very important for those wanting to communicate effectively in ‘Western countries’ such as the UK and US.

If you would like to revisit an English course, or even start an English course for the first time, Distance Learning Centre has English Language available at both IGCSE and A Level. By studying various authors over 5 modules, the candidate will be able to develop their skills in spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Alternatively, the English A Level course will allow candidates to critically discuss language and literature at an advanced level. This is more relevant for those who want to specialise in the language, perhaps by moving into an industry such as publishing, copy writing or even journalism.
