The MOS Word 2013 Essentials & Expert Course will help students to master Microsoft Word 2013. The course is ideal for beginners and takes users to an advanced level of proficiency.

The course is designed to give proficiency in creating simple to sophisticated documents using Microsoft Word 2013, and in using its advanced features to manage document revisions, design forms, and perform mail merges. Designated as approved course materials for the Microsoft Office Specialist program, this course will help students prepare for the MOS Word 2013 Core exam (77-418) or the MOS Word Expert exams (77-425/77-426).

Learn how to: Apply table formatting and styles and work with data in a table.

Unit Ten - Illustrations

Learn how to: Use SmartArt to create and modify a diagram, insert and modify shapes, format text using WordArt, create drop caps and insert text boxes.

Unit Eleven - Advanced document formatting

Learn how to: Insert section breaks, format section headers and footers and page numbering, format text into multiple columns and customise a document’s appearance by applying background colours, fill effects, watermarks and themes.

Unit Twelve - Document sharing

Learn how to: Protect a document with a password, view and edit document properties, use Track Changes, work with comments and use the Compatibility Checker, the Accessibility Checker and the Document Inspector to share documents.

Unit Thirteen - Mail Merge

Learn how to: Use the mailings tab to create form letters, create a recipient list, sort and filter records and create mailing label and envelope documents.

Unit Fourteen - Document interactivity

Learn how to: Create forms, add content from other applications to a Word document, preview a document as a Web page and save a document as a Web page.

Unit Fifteen - Document references

Learn how to: Create a table of contents and a table of figures, add captions and cross references, create an index, insert a bibliography and add footnotes.

Unit Sixteen - Working Efficiently

Learn how to: Customise the ribbon by adding tabs and groups, use the Building Blocks Organiser and create a master document.

Unit Seventeen - Macros and VBA fundamentals

Learn how to: Record simple macros, use VBA and examine the Visual Basic Editor, change the properties of an object, add a module to a project, write the code for a procedure and then run it, manipulate data by declaring variables, combine data by using expressions, use functions to accept input and display output, declare variables and procedures with the appropriate scope, work with VBA objects and use the Document collection and the Tables collection.

Unit Eighteen - VBA programming

Learn how to: Use decision structures to create procedures that make decisions, use loop structures to perform repetitive tasks, add forms to a project and add controls to a form, handle events attached to forms and controls, validate data entry in controls, identify errors in code and use debugging tools.

  • Student Exercise Files:

Once enrolled students will receive a support email giving them access to their student files and to PowerPoint presentations relevant to the content of each unit. These files are also available through a student page and can be sent on disk on request.

  • GMetrix Exam Preparation Software:

The course also comes with GMetrix exam preparation software. The GMetrix Skills Management System provides everything you need to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification.

Please Note: You will need a version of Microsoft Office 2013 to be able to use the GMetrix software package.


There are no particular entry requirements as the course is set out for beginners although students will require their own version of Microsoft Word 2013 to complete the course.

Students may register at any time. The courses are designed as self-study courses but if you have any problems you can email our email support. As the course is self study you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer, and we do not impose a cut-off date for study.

APPLE MAC USERS: We recommend this course is completed on a PC with the Windows Operating System. The course can be run on an Apple Macs using software such as Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop 7, VMware fusion or CrossOver Mac although we cannot support any issues that may occur with PC-Based software running on a Mac.


Assessment is in the form of MOS Examinations. MOS 2013 Examinations are project-based simulations which are designed to offer real world exercises to appraise a student's understanding of using Microsoft Office.


MOS Word 2013 CourseOn completion of this course students can apply for the Microsoft Office Specialist Word Core 77-418 Examination and the Microsoft Office Specialist Word 2013 Expert 77-425 & 77-426 Exams.

Examinations must be sat at a registered Certiport Testing Centre. Exam vouchers (Valid for 12 Months) can be purchased from via our website for £75.00. We usually advise buying a voucher when you are ready to sit your test, although you can add this to your order when you purchase your course.
