The WordPress for Websites Online Course will take students through the features of the WordPress software and the steps you need to create your own website from scratch or to maintain an existing website in house. When you have completed the WordPress for websites online course, you will be able to create a WordPress website with blog. You will think about designing a user friendly website (colours, images, accessibility); you will install a template, include plugins, create static pages, include images, use widgets and implement SEO. You will also create blog posts, include Google Analytics in the website and you will receive an introduction to using Google Analytics to measure the success of your site. The course covers everything you need to create a website including information about choice of colours and images, the layout of the website, choosing a template, using plugins and creating static pages. The course includes an introduction to search engine optimisation so right from the start you will create a website that can be found by the search engines and your customers.

Wordpress for Websites Course The course is delivered through the Distance Learning Centre's new on-line training portal, which is accessed via a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari. Throughout the course students are supported by a personal course tutor who can give feedback on your work at any time throughout your study.

The Course consists of the following units:-

  • Learning Object 1: Web Design Steps 

This unit contains the following topics: What is WordPress and why use it? Choosing between self-hosted or web-hosted versions, looking at website design and accessibility.

  • Learning Object 2: Getting Started with WordPress 

This unit contains the following topics: Customising your WordPress website's appearance and using a blog as part of your site.

  • Learning Object 3: Enhancing Your WordPress Website 

This unit contains the following topics: Using plugins and widgets, creating menus and an introduction to HTML. How to get your website found.

Prerequisites:

There are no particular entry requirements, although it is recommended that students have a good understanding of using computers.

Course Duration & Support:

Students may register at any time. As this is a short course, the student receives a fully-supported 3 month licence period and any support is delivered via email. As the course is self-study, you can complete in as little or as long a time as you prefer within the 3 month licence period.

Assessment:

As this is a short unaccredited online course there are no student assignments although there are exercises for the student to complete as they progress.

Certification:

This course is designed for personal development and is not externally accredited. Students can request a Certificate of Completion after successfully completing all course learning objects.
