Course Description

The Autism Awareness for Educators - Level 3 Course aims to develop your understanding of autism and gives anybody in a education capacity the ability to be effective when working with Autistic individuals. More than 1 in 100 children now are diagnosed with autism, although this figure is increasing all the time and it is likely that many more children remain undiagnosed.

This means that autism is found in most schools. Larger schools will have several children with autism at any given time. As awareness increases and diagnostic criteria change, it is likely that all classrooms will have at least one child with autism in future.

Children on the autistic spectrum think and experience the world and other people differently, resulting in them misinterpreting and misunderstanding. Educators therefore, need to be aware of how they can best support children on the autistic spectrum to receive an appropriate education, get along with others, and function independently in the world.

Wherever possible, children with autism should be educated in a mainstream school, which means that classrooms must be inclusive, balancing the needs of the autistic child with the needs of others, creating an appropriate learning environment for all. Other children with autism may need to be educated in independent schools, residential schools, special needs schools or schools for gifted children.

On successful completion of this course students will receive an endorsed Level 3 Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards.

About ABC Awards & Certa Awards Certification

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).

The course has been endorsed under the ABC Awards and Certa Awards Quality Licence Scheme.
