The Equality & Diversity – Level 2 Certificate (RQF) Course is for students who are wanting to improve their understanding of Equality and Diversity and gain a full RQF listed qualification.

The course is designed to give staff members or those interested in working in this area, an overview of the issues surrounding stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. The course will also help students to identify the basic rights that all people should enjoy and the shared values people have, and to examine the responsibility that each person and organisation has in ensuring that obstacles to participation in society are removed. Students will look at the various laws (legislation) which affect equality and diversity, and how organisations have to take them into account.

The objectives of this course are to help learners to raise their awareness of the issues surrounding equality and diversity and demonstrate this awareness through their actions in the workplace.

This course can be used to complement practical work, giving students the theoretical knowledge required. This qualification is suitable for both young (pre-16) and adult learners, including those in current employment or those seeking employment. It is also ideal for those who need to gain an awareness of issues surrounding equality and diversity, for example as part of a work-place induction programme or for personal development.

On successful completion of this course students will receive a Level 2 RQF Certificate Qualification with 18 credits.

Course Delivery Notice: You will receive access to the course materials through an online portal for a 12-month period. Students can use the portal for accessing their course materials, submitting assignments and to log tutor questions. A hard-copy book version of the course notes are also supplied. Due to the current circumstances surrounding COVID-19 hard-copy versions of this course are being dispatched twice a week so there may be slight delays.

The Course covers the following Units:-

  • Unit 1 - Exploring Equality and Diversity (6 credits)

By the end of this unit you will: Understand what equality means; Understand the ways in which people might choose to describe themselves; Understand what diversity means; Understand stereotyping and labelling and their effects; and Understand prejudice and discrimination and their effects

  • Unit 2 - Exploring How People's Rights and Responsibilities are Protected at Work (6 credits)

By the end of this unit you will: Understand the meaning of equality and diversity in places of work; Understand how people's rights are protected in places of work; Know how organisations promote equality and diversity in the place of work; Understand the meaning and coverage of the Human Rights Act (1998) and Know how to access support and information on people's rights.

  • Unit 3 - Working or Learning in a Place that Promote Diversity (6 credits)

By the end of this unit you will be able to: Understand how the place of work tries to create a diverse working environment; Understand how the place of work maintains and monitors equality and diversity; and Understand the value to the organisation in creating and maintaining a diverse environment.


This material is suitable for candidates with a basic knowledge of this area, who are interested in improving their understanding of Equality and Diversity. You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with full tutor support.

The assessor/tutor will support the learner throughout the duration of the course. The learner will complete activities and an assignment in order to successfully complete the course. You will receive the course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support. Our student support team are also available for any other queries that you may have whilst completing your course.


The tutor will support the learner throughout the duration of this course. Completing a series of tutor marked activities and assignments will lead you to the highly acclaimed Certificate in Equality and Diversity RQF qualification.

Course Assignments can be returned by uploading to the online portal, by email or by post. We recommend that assignments are completed and returned as word-processed documents through the online portal. Handwritten documents can be accepted but need to be clear and legible and may be subject to a longer marking time.


NCFEOn successful completion of this course students will be awarded a Level 2 Certificate Qualification in Equality & Diversity issued by NCFE.

This qualification has been accredited at level 2 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF Qualification No. 601/3145/7) and has 18 credits.

The qualification award is issued through NCFE. NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

This course provides successful students with a qualification listed on the Regulated Qualifications Framework, accredited by NCFE at level 2 and assessed through NCC, a licensed NCFE centre. Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality.
