Course Description

The aims of the Valuing Diversity in the Workplace - QLS Level 2 Course are to examine the legal, regulatory and ethical considerations brought about by the changing society within which we live and to promote best practice in adopting, encouraging and managing diversity.

This programme is designed for people who wish to gain a better understanding of the changing nature of society, legal aspects of equality and the benefits that can accrue from valuing diversity in clients, customers, colleagues and staff.

Differences in beliefs, values and culture are an increasingly important part of our society. An understanding not only of the legal framework which exists, but also of the positive benefits which can arise from a varied community, are essential elements of any organisation’s success. This programme is intended to promote greater knowledge and understanding of a variety of issues which diversity raises and to encourage adoption of best practice in managing workplace relationships.

On successful completion of this course students will receive a QLS Level 2 Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards.

The Valuing Diversity in the Workplace - QLS Level 2 Course Includes the Following Units:
The following topics are covered: Understanding Diversity, Stereotyping and prejudice, The case for valuing diversity, Ethics and values, Changes in society, People management, Legislation and Making the full use of human resources.
The following topics are covered: Sex, race, Disability, Sexual orientation, Religion or belief, Gender reassignment and Age.
The following topics are covered: What kind of discrimination? What is direct discrimination? What is less favourable treatment? What is indirect discrimination? Disability discrimination, victimisation and Harassment and bullying.
The following topics are covered: Equal Pay Act 1970, Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, Sex Discrimination Act 1975, Disability Discrimination Act 1995, Human Rights Act 1998, Employment Act 2002, Race Relations Act 1976 (Amendment) Regulations 2003, Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 and Sex Discrimination Burden of Proof Regulations 2003.
The following topics are covered: With customer and clients, With colleagues, With employees, Managing, adopting and encouraging diversity and Moving from compliance to best practice.

There are no particular entry requirements for this course, so students can sign up providing they are comfortable studying at a Level 2 standard.

Course Duration & Online Support

You can start this course at any time, and you would be registered for a one-year period. You also have access to a personal tutor who can be contacted by email. Your tutor is available to assist with any queries and to mark your assignments for the Awarding Body.

As the course is self-study, you can complete it as quickly as you like. Support extensions are available if students do not complete the course within the one-year period.


You will be assessed on TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments). Most TMAs consists of short paragraph answers, although some TMAs may have a specific word count. The main criteria to pass as assignment is to prove to the tutor that you have fully understood the question and have answered it sufficiently.

If the assignment is not of the required level or needs an amendment it will be detailed in your tutor feedback so you can make any required changes. The course tutor will be happy to give guidance as to how you might improve you answers. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.
